Response from scamarama.com

I recently received a reply from the IRS scam I sent/reported  to a few places. one of those is www.Scamorama.com where I report any Bank scams I receive in emails or IMs. Once in a while I get a funny remark back from a reviewer on a specific bank scam I report to them. Things like wow you must be really cold hearted, then talk about how they wouldn't click on the email either, and a nice thank you..... hehe.

These guys do great things no one else seems interested in. I hope to encourage others to help report these scams

Here is Scamarama's response to the IRS Scam mail. ( by the way - one of the places I sent the info about the Scam was to phishing@irs.gov )

Hi,

Thanks for sharing the scamosity. You could complain to the e-mail
provider(s) and the hoster of the web site.

E-mail provider (apparently):
% whois 213.42.26.139 --> Emirates Telecommunications Corporation,
Dubai (contact info spits out) (see www.ripe.net)

But, it could also be:
X-Originating-IP:[66.252.160.48] --> Cooperative Communications, NJ
(see www.arin.net)

The above could be forged. The response from the ISPs will tell you.

The web host feels more certain than the e-mail providers.

Hoster of fraudulent web site (apparently):
http://www.softics.ro/catalog/images/redir.php
(that's what's under 'click here')

% dig softics.ro --> 193.223.101.177
% whois 193.223.101.177 --> thevault.ro (theVault SRL - Webhosting
Services) (contact info spits out) (see www.ripe.net)

Sorry to say, but Romania, Brazil - these are suspect, based on long  experience with barrages of attacks from those places.

It may or may not be fruitful to contact the web ISP. Might be better to contact
http://www.antiphishing.org/ and Artists Against 419  (www.aa419.org).

And, of course, the IRS:

http://www.irs.gov/newsroom/article/0,,id=170894,00.html
.. Recipients of questionable e-mails claiming to come from the IRS  should not open any attachments or click on any links contained in  the e-mails. Instead, they should forward the e-mails to
phishing@irs.gov (follow the instructions). ..."

Hope this helps. Best wishes for a scam-free '08 !

Fake IRS Email with a bad virus

The IRS will not email you. So do not open an email that says it is from the IRS. Apperently this virus scam has a Communist IP address who is doing this but they didnt say from where. I would think most likely from west or south communist states that use to make up greater Russia??

SCAM ALERT

ALERT: TELEPHONE FRAUD INVOLVING JURY DUTY

Washington, D.C. - The FBI today is providing a warning to the public against an ongoing scheme involving jury service. The public needs to be aware that individuals identifying themselves as U.S. court employees have been telephonically contacting citizens and advising them that they have been selected for jury duty. These individuals ask to verify names and Social Security numbers then ask for credit card numbers. If the request is refused, citizens are then threatened with fines.

The judicial system does not contact people telephonically and ask for personal information such as your Social Security number, date of birth or credit card numbers. If you receive one of these phone calls, do not provide any personal or confidential information to these individuals. This is an attempt to steal or to use your identity by obtaining your name, Social Security number and potentially to apply for credit or credit cards or other loans in your name. It is an attempt to defraud you.

If you have already been contacted and have already given out your personal information, please monitor your account statements and credit reports, and contact your local FBI office. Local FBI field office telephone numbers can be found in the front of your local telephone directory or on www.fbi.gov. For further information, please review the warnings posted on the U.S. Courts website at www.uscourts.gov, "Newsroom" news article "WARNING: Bogus Phone Calls on Jury Service May lead to Fraud," August 19, 2005.

For additional information regarding the same scam for local courts, please visit the following website: http://www.snopes.com/crime/fraud/juryduty.asp
